New Swimming Pool Liner
Dad wants input on which new
swimming pool liner to get. I'm partial to "Cortez Border w/ Cortez Bottom," while Nicole likes "Canterbury Border
w/ Pebble Bottom."

Anybody else getting geared up for next year's basketball season? Here's a nice article about

Back to Waikiki!
We went back to Waikiki this past Thursday to see Auntie Genoa again. This time we brought with us Auntie Genoa's daughter-in-law, Iwalani Keawe (She has known Nicole since she was a little girl). We had a pleasant evening with her. We got to meet the performers up close and personal. I even had the chance to ask Auntie Genoa for some tips on playing the ukulele.
This is Auntie Genoa's right hand woman, Auntie Momi (A member of our church that goes to Waimanalo Ward). She was so friendly. During their break she came and talked to us for about 10 minutes. Having one of the performers come and chat with us made us feel special.

News
Well, for those of you that haven't heard yet Mike and Nicole are packing up and moving to Kansas in June. It sure has been fun while we've been here and we will miss the island. The revelation came (not really, but this was one of the factors)when we found out that in order to buy a house here one of us would have to part with an arm and a leg due to the outrageously priced homes here. So we figured that we would go someplace where we could get a house, still keep our digits, and maybe even see some good basketball while we're there. We've both got some good job prospects and lot of people helping us out, who would have known the Aloha Spirit spreads all the way to Topeka!? We are both really excited to live in Topeka.
In the meantime we are trying to pack in as much fun as possible, while packing our stuff into boxes. Last night we invested in a ukele, so we can bring some sounds of the islands to the midwest. Nicole is pretty good. Me? That's another story, but it sure is fun to learn. I can play 4 lines of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow."
Thursday Night in Waikiki
Nicole and I went to listen to a Hawaiian band on Thursday night in Waikiki. The lady with the gray hair playing the ukulele is
Auntie Genoa Keawa, one of the pioneers of Hawaiian music whose daughter happens to go to our church with us in Kailua. The guy to the far right was Nicole's band teacher in high school. If you ever come to Waikiki this is a must, every Thursday night at 6 pm.
The cute lady up front is dancing a hula in honor of one of her friends birthday.
Learned the Hard Way
We learned an important lesson last week. Never try to get a haircut while there are brownies baking, because either the haircut or the brownies will suffer. Boy those brownies were yummy!

Test
Saturday night we had a ward activity for our church. The evening started out at the chapel. From there we all hopped on two buses and went to Pah Ke's Chinese restaurant where we were treated to a six-course meal that included fried duck and fried noodles, among other wonderful dishes. After dinner we got back on the buses and headed up to Laie to tour the newly remodeled
visitor's center.

We're Back
The last couple of weeks have been pretty uneventful. Following the Kansas loss to Bucknell Mike pretty much just moped around until all of the Madness was over. Roy got his championship. Congratulations Roy, you're still a good guy even though you left the most amazing program in the universe. Mike decided the reason KU didn't do so great in the tournament this year is because he wasn't on the continental US, so Mike and Nicole have decided to move to Kansas in hopes of KU winning it all next year. This weekend Mike and Nicole gave Oreo a haircut and also went to the beach. Mike got the worst sunburn of his life (pictures didn't really do it justice so they got edited out, but trust us, he is red!) as he fell asleep and baked in the sun while Nicole read, "The Work and The Glory." Hopefully there will be more news to come, until then, stay tuned.
